Adolph/Adolphus MARSCHAN was a music professor his family first appears 1851 cenus for Middlesex. He was born (c) 1805 in Goerlitz, Prussia.

If it is of any use, Henry Adolphus died in 1878 -

Sept quarter, 1878
Henry Adolphus Marschan aged 39 Medway district volume 2a page 296

I couldn't find Adolphus or Julia though.
There is also a Frederick W who died aged 0 and the death is registered in Southampton, 1871.

Wonder if Adolphus and Julia emigrated to another country - either back to Germany/Prussia or elsewhere?

Mark

Edit: Well spotted Davran! I was about to try the name variants when I saw your post :)

Interesting. I looked for Adolph in 1871, but couldn't find him. His wife is with the daughter Adolphine, so where was Adolph? Had he gone abroad?

Many thanks for the reply Jan1954. Looks like Davran has found Adolph's death date. I have sent for a certificate on his information. Fingers crossed.
To answer your question they last appeared on the 1861 cenus for 80 Stanhope St Hampstead road, Pancras.
Julia Marschan appears 1871 cenus under HARRISON, Horace C, her daughter Adolphine's husband, at Leicester St Bradford Villas, Chipping Barnet, New Barnet. Julia is not on the 1881 cenus. I cannot find any records on the free BDM site. Even the information from Davran is not on the free Bdm site.

Thanks a million for the reply Davran.
Have sent for the death certificate of Adolph. Henry Adolphus was Adolphu's son, looks like they died in the same year. Henry's wife Emma Ruddell, remarried Timothy Fleming in 1849 after Henry's death. Adolph Marschan was my g.g.grandfather. Any suggestions on how I could trace the Marschan family back into Prussia?

Hi Janice,
The info about Adolph is indeed on the FreeBMD website - although it isn't easy to locate!

If you use the details supplied by Davran - just put in the first name (Adolph), start and finish dates as 1878, all counties and put in the volume and page number which Davran mentions (vol 1b page 121); you will bring up the correct entry.

Thanks Mark - I found the entry - the spelling was incorrect. Will know next time to check variations - Janice
