I have a direct ancestor in my tree named William King, born in Berwick St John (according to the census) around 1780. For some reason he went to Llansanffraid Cwmteuddwr, Radnorshire, Wales and there he married a Mary Chedzoy. They had three children and then appeared to return to Alvediston, Wiltshire. I was always told my paternal family came from Alvediston but it seems they certainly intermingled with the nearby towns and villages!
William King doesnt appear in the Parish Register for Berwick St John so i am having trouble tracing his line further back. Can anyone give me some hints as to what to try, short of visiting the Swindon Records Office, which i cant do for the forseeable future. I would love to know why he went to Wales too?
