looking for a marriage of william flatley to ellen pitt in kidderminster pre 1886,i have searched back to 1881 no find so far their first child was born in 1886

Have you got any more details? Have you got a birth certificate from the first child to tell you who the mother was? Don't forget they probably married in the bride's parish - was she from Kidderminster?

There is a marriage on FreeBMD for a William Flatley in Jun1886 vol 6c p275 to an Elizabeth Whittaker.

I can't find any entry on FreeBMD for a Pitt/Flatley marriage between 1880 and 1889.

i have found that marriage,in 1886, ellen was williams first wife or so i believe,all the census records state ellen as his wife. i expect i could send for a birth cert for one of the children

Yes, Ann, that's the only sure way to find who the mother was! It could be that Ellen was her middle name and the one she was known by.
