Fow would I go about tracing relatives who were born in France during the 1820's? Unfortunately all I have are their names and years of birth plus their parents names. I have no idea where abouts in France they were born.

The GRO's Overseas (Consular etc) birth records can be searched at FamilyRelatives or Findmypast - both pay sites, unfortunately.

Somewhere in France - ah, that narrows it down then ;)

The National Archives has a very few French records which may be worth a shot:

Calais and St.Omar baptisms (Vol 1 Register 1) 1817-1847 in RG33/50
Le Havre baptisms 1817-1843 in RG33/56
Paris baptisms 1816-1844 in RG33/62

If the father was in the army then Regimental Registers of birth 1761-1924 and Army Chaplains returns of births 1796-1880 would be worth a search.

Sadly Consular birth records don't begin until 1849
