census look-up please

Hi,
I have this family on the 1861 census;
John Cox age 50 widower b. Potton, Beds
John (son) age 25 b. Potton
Mary (daughter-in-law) age 23 b. Sutton
Living in King Street, Potton.
I'd like to know the name of John's wife, so if someone can go back and check the earlier census I'd be very grateful.

In 1851 John was already a widower:

HO 107/1753 Page 3

Holland, Potton, Bedfordshire

Thomas Ginn, Head, Married, 66, Ag Lab, b Potton
Mary Ginn, Wife, 65, b Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire
John Cox, Lodger, Widower, 40, Ag Lab, b Potton
Susan Cox, dau, 11 b Potton

There are a few likely candidates in 1841, but none living in Potton. Do you have the names of any other children?

Hi Jan,
Thanks for your help. I've had a look through my notes and found a Susan Cox chr.20/09/1840 daughter of John and Hannah. One of the possible marriages for John is on 19/05/1834 to Hannah Green so I think it's likely that Hannah is who I'm looking for. I'm off to check death dates now I've got a name.

You may well find that John's wife died in childbirth with Susan so check the Parish Records for Potton, if you can.

You may also find that Elizabeth Webb coould be John's sister. Many families looked after their own when a mother died.

They had a daughter Mary Webb whom Married Thomas Kelly.

I am wondering if your Mary Ginn may have a link her... Perhaps her mother.

I have a Mary Kelly (nee Webb) born June 1st 1808 died May 15th 1880

Her parents were listed as John Webb and Mary Webb (nee Ginn)

I have no dates for them yet though, but when looking saw your post here.
I have intuition it may be my Mary Webb (nee Ginn) parents that you have referred to here.

Let me know if you can help.

And of course add this in if it is info you have yet to collect yourself.

Hi,
You don't say where Mary Webb was born, I assumed Bedfordshire but can't find any birth except one in London. I did a bit of searching on Ancestry and found the 1807 Webb/Ginn marriage, also in London. You say you have more. Have you traced Mary Ginn on the census to see where she was born? This is not the Mary Ginn mentioned in the post here. She was 65 in 1851 so not the right age to have had a daughter old enough to marry in 1807.
It might help to share what you have as without dates and locations it is very difficult to see how a link can be made or disproved.
