I can see Rosa,
She was born in Sep 1841 at Hartismere, Suffolk 13/406

1851 Census living in Arwarton,
Class: HO107; Piece: 1798; Folio: 321; Page: 13

She married George Thomas Rudland in 1860 at Ipswich.
4a/1283

In 1861 they lived in Bury St Edmunds
Class: RG9; Piece: 1141; Folio: 9; Page: 11

Then I lost the plot for Rosa and Harry.

Sorry

SorryOh, but where is Harry? [BTW, I love his full name.]

He must have been born after the 1861 census.

Hi Thanks
Just got a message to say. George and Rosa emigrated to Australia, Victoria in 1864 on The Golden Horn. Harry Flowerdew Cutting Rudland death is also recorded in Ipswich. How can I check the passenger list for the Golden Horn? I am thinking he may have stayed with relatives.

How can I check the passenger list for the Golden Horn? I am thinking he may have stayed with relatives.I have a possibility for you -- a little tenuous, but still a possibility:

In the 1871 census, there's an 11 year old Harry Ashford living with George and Maria Ashford in Ipswich St. Margaret. He's listed as a son, along with other children, aged from 10 to 20. George Ashford is 56, an innkeeper [Running Buck Inn], birthplace Harwich, Essex. Harry's birthplace is Ipswich.
[Reference: RG10/1755 Folio 119 Page 2]

In the 1861 census, there's a 1 year old Henry living with George and Maria Ashford in Ipswich St. Margaret. George is listed as a victualler, address, Running Buck. "Henry" is listed as a son but he's the youngest in the family by far. The next in age are Ellen and Robert, both 14 years old. George is 44 and his wife Maria is 42. George's birthplace is Harwich, Essex. "Henry's" is Ipswich.
[Reference: RG9/1165 Folio 87 Page 2]

In the 1851 census, Rose Cutting is living with George and Elizabeth Ashford, 72 and 61 respectively, in Arwarton. George is a farmer.
[HO107/1798 Folio 321 Page 13]

Also, in 1851, George and Maria Ashford, 34 and 33, are in Melton. George is a grocer + draper. George's birthplace is Harwich, Essex.
[Reference: HO107/1801 Folio 750 Page 7]

In the 1841 census, George and Elizabeth Ashford, ages rounded to 60 and 50, are in Erwarton. With them is a son named George, 25 [rounded].
[Reference: HO107/1034 Folio 6 Page 8]

My theory: Could the younger George be the elder George's and Elizabeth's son? Perhaps Harry was given over to the care of George and Maria Ashford and so was listed in the 1861 and 1871 censuses as a son. Informal adoptions were not uncommon in those days. Of course, a snag in linking them all together is the younger George's birthplace [Essex] but, otherwise, it's not a bad connection...

At any rate, if Harry was born before 1861 he should show up somewhere in the 1861 census. Curiously, he's not with his parents. So there's an interesting mystery here...

Also interesting to note is George Rudland's occupation in 1861 -- at the age of 21, he's a homeopathic chemist. Wife Rosa is a Berlin wool seller. They're living between a leather shop and an inn, close to the police station, a butter market and another inn -- i.e., they're in a commercial area. I'm not sure if this is significant but it's worth noting.

Looks like Harry Flowerdew Cutting Rudland emigrated to Australia and died in 1875. Arriving in Meldourne, July 1864 on board the Golden Horn. He travelled with his registered parents George and Rosa Rudland and his grandmother Sarah Ann Ashford.
