Hi
I live in Canada and am searching for any information on my mothers family. Her mother Beatrice Mary Scales was raised in an Orphanage along with one of her sisters. Elizabeth Sarah known as Lily. Beatrice was born July 24 1882 and Lily was born June 13 1881.
Their father was Alfred Scales who had epileptic fits. He could not work and his wife Elizabeth Jane Scales tried charring to sustain the family but it became impossible hence the reason the two girls were placed in an orphanage. The girls were admitted to the orphanage in 1891, but I could not find any info on the other children or what happened to the parents. There was a Mary Ann, Margaret and George William. From here I am not sure where to proceed from here. I was also wondering if there are pictures or sketches of the buildings where the two older girls were raised. First they were admitted to the NCH home in Banner Road, London and then transferred to the branch in Ramsey, Isle and Man.

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated

Could this be your family in 1891, they had been indexed as SEALES, I have a Scales interest in my husband's family (his great-aunt married a Scales) & it is not uncommon to find them indexed as Seales.

On Page 1 under "Where Born" there is a note, underlined
"It is absolutely impossible to give this information as the children have not any clear idea where they were born"

The children are listed alphabetically, Jane Scales may not be related although there is an Alice Jane born in the same registration district as George.
