is it glass toy something? there is a glass works manufacturer listed above him, maybe they made glass toys & John Lowe worked there?

i'm sure some one else will clarify things!

the full reference.

Which in this case is...

HO 107/1139/5 folio 43 page 13

The book number (5 in this case) is only needed for the 1841 census.

I perhaps should have explained above that "m" was the standard abbreviation in the 1841 census for "maker". This not to be confused with "M" for "manufacturer".

gosh this man got about a bit.

1841 married to Elizabeth lots of children

1851 married to Jemmima several more kids

1861 and 1871 shows as a lodger to a british subject born in Germany, "money in the bank"

his occupation on the last two census is retired GILT toy maker

no.....that image will take ages to leave my head.

I did think glass, apart from marbles was an odd medium for toys....

looked again the other man was manager at glassworks, but shows there was a glass factory locally.

Just out of interest - I don't suppose your John Lowe had migrated from Norfolk?????

I have a one-name study of LOW(E) in Norfolk

sorry Geoffers, it would appear he was from Brum, his son John's children, all bar my Great Grandmother, Betsy, went to West Ham, London to live.

lol, my father side of the family come from the "best" of places...

Aston, and surrounding areas, Birkenhead, West Ham, Doncaster... ummm but then you go back a couple more generations and we are Cornish, French etc... so umm perhaps not so bad afterall.
