Hi everyone!|wave|
My gg grandfather James Norman Scott was born about 1824 in Cameron, Fife. I have no idea who his parents or siblings (if any) are. I know he moved into Northumberland, married a Martha Young, and had 1 daughter, Ann, born 1849.
Does anyone know about this gentleman or know what parish records are available to try and find his parents etc?
Any leads greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Rhonda.

Thanks, Rhonda.Rhonda,

There's the following family living in Cameron in 1841:

Census: 1841: Parish Cameron; ED 2
Address: Karleden, Cameron, Fife, Scotland
-- James Scott 40 Male Wright born Fife Scotland
-- Bell Scott 40 Female born Fife Scotland
-- Christian Scott 15 Female born Fife Scotland
-- James Scott 15 Male Wright Ap born Fife Scotland
-- Margret Scott 14 Female born Fife Scotland
-- Alexander Scott 12 Male born Fife Scotland
-- Mary Scott 8 Female born Fife Scotland
-- Andrew Scott 3 Male born Fife Scotland
-- Alexander Wallace 15 Male Wright Ap born Fife Scotland

Unfortunately, relationships aren't stated and the adults' ages are rounded off in the 1841 census.

The same family shows up in the 1851 census minus both Jameses:

Census:1851: Parish Cameron; ED 3 Line 5
Address: Hazleden Cotton, Fife, Scotland
-- Isabella Scott 54 Head Female Wright Mother born St. Andrews Fifeshire
-- Margaret Scott 23 Daughter born Cameron Fifeshire
-- Alexander Scott 21 Son Wright born Cameron Fifeshire
-- Andrew Scott 12 Son Scholar born Cameron Fifeshire
-- Alexander Deas 17 Apprentice Wright born St. Andrews Fifeshire

Hope this helps,
Trish

Rhonda,

The same Scott family appears in the 1851 census, minus both Jameses:

Census: 1851: Parish Cameron; ED 3; Line 1
Address: Hasleden Cotton, Cameron, Fife
-- Isabella Scott 54 Head [Occupation:] Wright Mother born St. Andrews Fifeshire
-- Margaret Scott 23 Daughter born Cameron Fifeshire
-- Alexander Scott 21 Son Wright born Cameron Fifeshire
-- Andrew Scott 13 Son Scholar born Cameron Fifeshire
-- Alexander Deas 17 Apprentice Wright born St. Andrews Fifeshire

I don't see a James Scott born about 1824 in Cameron living elsewhere in Fife so just maybe this family belongs to your James who may have moved to Northumberland by 1851.

Have you seen the following record in the IGI?

James Scott
-- Birth: 20 Aug 1824
-- Christening: 22 Aug 1824 Cameron Fife Scotland
-- Father: James Scott
-- Mother: Bell Malcom
-- Batch No.: C114125

Other Children listed with parents James Scott and Bell or Isobel Malcom [same Batch No.]:

-- Christiana Scott born 17 Mar 1822
-- Margaret Walker Scott born 09 Apr 1827
-- Alexander Walker Scott born 02 Jun 1829
-- Mary Scott born 10 Apr 1833
-- Andrew Brown Scott born 04 Mar 1838

There's also a marriage record for the Scott parents:

James Scott and Isabel Malcom
-- 20 Dec 1820 Cameron Fife Scotland
-- Batch No.: M114125

And possible birth record for Bell Malcom:

Bell Malcom
-- Birth: 02 Jul 1796
-- Christening: 12 Jul 1796 St. Andrews And St. Leonards, Fife, Scotland
-- Father: James Malcom
-- Mother: Christian Dryborough
-- Batch No.: C114359
