Hi folks
I know that one of you will have the answer to this, I hope.
I have spent the afternoon trying to set up a friends new laptop etc all brand new and seeing it took NTL 3 weeks to finally sort out the broadband connection thought that setting up their email would be easy, seeing that I can do mine blindfolded.
Well I couldn't. I following the settings from their web page for outlook and it just didn't want to work. OK, their page gives the POP3 settings as follows-
pop.ntlworld.com - in text
pop3.ntlworld.com - in the diagram below that.
Tried both of these with no luck.
Is there anyone out there who now what the answer is without phoning their call centre in India?
BTW - I drove pass their Nottingham offices to get to my friends house!

Hello Neil,

Our broadband connection is via NTL World - though we use Eudora for e-mail rather than Lookout ;)

The incoming mail server which we use is pop.ntlworld.com.

They both resolve to 81.103.221.14

Sorry that's all I can offer. Having worked for them once, I have to say I wouldn't volunteer to become one of their customers ;)

Thanks Peter and Graham
The jury is still out before I call India on her behalf. At least the web mail side work.

I use Thunderbird & have my server setting as

pop.ntlworld.com Port 110

Use secure connection: never

When I had it set to use a secure connection it didn't work.

Port is default at 110
Why can't they be simple - my ISP uses mail.etc for incoming and outgoing.

Why can't they be simple - my ISP uses mail.etc for incoming and outgoing.

That's not at all obvious - incoming and outgoing email are entirely different beasts and it's normal for them to be handled by different servers.

My NTL settings are:

IN pop.ntlworld.com port:110
OUT smtp.ntlworld.com port:25

Neither has the 'secure' box ticked.

There is a useful, extensive list of outgoing (SMTP) servers for loads of ISPs on:
http://www.iw-webhosting.co.uk/smtp_hosts.htm

= Malcolm. Thanks Malcolm, I had used those setting and it didn't work.
I even deleted the mailbox and started again to no avail.
