recently i have found out that my fathers parents were not married.
my father was the youngest of 4 & was born in 1912.all 4 children had their fathers surname.
the mother is shown to still be married to a different man on her death in 1926
and her death was registered by her daughter from that marriage.
in 1901 the census shows her living in yorkshire with her husband and 2 daughters ,1 of which was the one who registered her mothers death. this daughter was still living in yorkshire but my fathers family lived in lancashire.
both my fathers parents were born in the wigan area of lancashire, as wre their 4 children.
the 2 daughters from her marriage were also born there.
his mother and her husband were married in this area about 1888/89. but the husband was born in co. durham.
does this story ring any bells with anyone.

james whelan ellen wilson nee atherton but known as whelan.
their children -elizabeth,stephen,thomas george.
james wilson ellen wilson nee atherton.
their children -beatrice ,esther -beatrice later lived in the airedale area of castleford.
james wilson also appears to have still been alive at the time of ellens death as his name is given as husband on the death certifiate.
