Through Family Tree DNA I have proven genetic links to Samuel Elder, b 26 Jan 1695 in Antrim. He married Mary Huston and they had 3 offspring born in Artemore (Ardmore) before they emigrated to America where they had 4 more. I know of at least two branches of the family in the USA now.

I was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and my earliest proven “Elder” ancestor is Alexander, b 1744. He married Isabella Cleland in Newcastle in 1776. (It is possible that Alexander’s parents were James Elder and Katherin Johnson b abt 1720)

My thoughts are that the “Elders” went from the North East of England, or possibly Scotland during the “Ulster Plantation”, pre or post, Oliver Cromwell era 1600 -1670

Any help or thoughts about emigration from the Northeast of England to Ireland during this period would be appreciated.
