Just to draw people's attention to the fact that we now have a Renfrewshire forum! |jumphappy

I have KNOX, FORSYTH, MCFARLANE and various others, the main line being KNOX. Am stuck with Robert Knox who married Jean McIndoe in 1783.

I'd be even happier if someone else would break down my |banghead|!! Given the commonness (if there is such a word) of the surname KNOX, I would have thought there would be someone else out there researching the same family! There are some of us on GenesReunited, but we've all got stuck and others disagree about which way the line goes.|help|

I'm not researching Knox but I do have both volumes of the Renfrewshire pre 1855 MIs. Which part of Renfrewshire did your lot come from?

Sue, that's kind. My lot came from Renfrew, Renfrewshire. I have a John Knox 1841-1913, John Knox 1796-1868 and the latter's father Robert who married Jean Mcindoe in 1783. There was quite a community of Knoxes in the Renfrew/Paisley area, so it's not easy to sort. I don't think there would be many tombstones for the earlier ones as they were only weavers, but if you could have a look I'd be very grateful. |hug|

Four Knoxes in Renfrew Churchyard but not seemingly yours.

Oh well, thanks for trying, Sue. Out of curiosity, what names WERE there - they might fit into a side line somewhere? A fellow researcher calls them the 'pesky Knoxes'.

Yippee! Thanks, Sue. |hug| Jane Knox and Andrew Hutchison are on a side branch of the tree and so is Agnes - I hadn't found her marriage.
There are a number of Hughs, so I imagine he is the child of one of the female Knoxes, but I haven't discovered one who married a Mr Young - something to work on. William wasn't common in the family, so I don't know who he was - no Muirs either.

Thanks again.

Glad you found something new. Since he's 'yours' I should have said that stone 37 (Andrew Hutchison) says "near 28", and stone 28 is listed as
(urn) George Hutchison daughter Catherine d 20/4/1836 1y 8m son George d 26/11/1865 aged 20.

Thanks Sue. I'll pass all the details on to a contact who's wife is descended from Jane and Andrew Hutchison.
