I am trying to find a John Dabbs, with wife Hannah and daughter Louisa in 1851.

In 1841 John is at home with his parents in SAL Wellington, his birthplace, aged 18
In 1861 he is aged 39, with Hannah, aged 38, and Louisa aged 12 living WOR Dudley.
In 1871 he is aged 47 with Hannah aged 48 in Dudley
In 1881 he is aged 57 with Hannah aged 56 in Dudley

It is not unusual for ages on census to show some variation.

I have searched birthdate 1824 +/- 5 years
I have searched for Hannah and Louisa
I have searched Dabbs - Soundex
I have searched Dabbs, Dibbs, Dobbs, Dabb, Dabe, Dabes and any number of other variations.

He should still be in Dudley in 1851. Please, can anyone help ?

You didn't try ALL the variations! He was transcribed as Joh (no N) DABLES!

Head: John Dabbs, 28, miner, Shropshire
Wife: Hannah Dabbs, 20, Shropshire
Daughter: Lucy (should be Louise???), 1, Dudley
Brother: John Partott/Parlott (?), unmarried, 25, miner, Shropshire

Pat, you are brilliant - thank you.

I had also done a couple of wildcard searches but obviously not the right ones.

The brother is actually Hannah's brother and should be John Parbutt.

I now have the run from 1841 to 1881 and I am most grateful.
