Northumberland Fusiliers.5th Battn.

Hi.I have a Queens Mediterranean Medal awarded to Lieutenant A.E.P.Littleton,5th Battn.Northumberland Fusiliers.This is confirmed on the Q.M.M. Medal Roll.I assume it was a militia battn.
I can find no detail of this Battn.,particularly where it served and what it did (presumably Malta or Gibralter,and as a garrison battn. or guarding prisoners),and the 1899 Army List seems to have no information on the individual or the Battn.
Medal roll also lists Hon W.H.Littleton,maybe a brother.
My man was retired med.unfit 24/10/1900,and subsequently earned a 1914/15 trio as a Captain in the Army Remount Service.
Can anyone help with details of service of the Battn.or of the officer?

This could be a starting point :-

Formed in 1908 from the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, The Northumberland Fusiliers.

Thanks.The problem I have is that the medal was awarded for service 1899-1900,which seems odd if the Battn was not formed until 1908.Medal roll definitely shows 5th Battn.

He is in the 1900 Army List. Wasn't an Officer (23Jan 1900), or not in the Army in 1899.

Thanks to all.This takes me a long way.
If the Battn was not embodied until 12/12/99,it perhaps explains why it did not make the 1899 Army List.
I will now look for an Attestation paper for him for his Boer war service(which would give a start date) as all the document detail I have is for his Great War service as an Army Remount Service Captain.Another trip to Kew required.
Will also now try to find detail of service of Battn at Malta.Probably not very glamorous so maybe not well recorded.
The Army Lists on CD look to be essential to any researcher.
