Hello everyone,
I would appreciate any help with this family including an 1861 or 1851 lookup if possible. They were living at 25 Liverpool St. in 1881 & at RG10/1187/81.17 which looks like Tredend St. The family consisted of Elizabeth, a widow, born 1813 New Forest, her dau Annette b c1847 & son William born c1851. Also with them was Elizabeth's sister Ann OXFORD. William, a baker, married Alice Singleton in 1885 at Droxford. In 1881 he is shown with a wife Elizabeth & children (in Southampton,) one of whom appears in 1891 at Swanmore Road, Droxford so he seems to have lost a wife & 2 children although I haven't found either the births or deaths on FreeBDM.
There are at least 3 marrriages for an Annette none of whom may be my lady although perhaps one could be a dau of William.
I have no idea who the father was but hope he will appear on an earlier census. William varies his age & name, being William, William George & George William!
TIA,
Marion

Hello Jaydee,
Many many thanks for all this information. It will help a great deal. This family seems to have interchangeable names so are particularly difficult. But getting there! This a is wonderful amount.
Cheers, Marion

Hi Jaydee,
This is so good of you, though you may regret it! This family is Elizabeth nee OXFORD supposed to have married George KILL although can't find marriage so far. She had a dau Annette & then a son William George b c1850 appears but also calls himself George William on some records. He is a baker, married twice & also has a dau Sarah Anne, or Annette, (or Annetta in 1901 I think.) His second wife was from Droxford & he moved there. Annette, getting on a bit, married a Joseph KING, but after that, when Elizabeth died, the informant given was Annette KILL, niece! So who is she? I suspect it's the dau but who knows! It maybe a way of saying grand-dau (the dau of Wm) who was still unmarried at the time. That's not so bad BUT staying with Elizabeth at one time was William OXFORD, nephew b c1850 & Elizabeth OXFORD, niece b c1849 both Southampton. And so they could be, but can't find who the parents were although Elizabeth had a bro, William Henry OXFORD, who went to London. BUT!!!! Have not been able to find Wm Oxford nephew bc 1850 & Wm KILL bc1850 both at the same time & we don't know if they are two people or one. Not to mention what happened to the original George, the reputed father & husband. Both Elizabeth & her two sisters were deaf, which might mean something by the way. Their parents were John & Sarah, can't find marriage. He died at my gt.gt.gt.grandfather's home so that's ok, but Sarah? Don't know. Maybe died in Southampton. They may have had other chn. I have 4 but the son may have been born in two places at once as well.........
I hope the above is accurate, we are somewhat confused, so don't worry if you feel the same...We now have all the census' except 1851 but have ordered the Index for Southampton to see where the other OXFORDS are. I know there are others related as well somehow. Most of mine are quite reliable with their information but this lot, not.
Any suggestions, comments, help very gratefully received.,
Cheers,
Marion

Hi Jaydee,
It still won't work. I was using the reply function, so know the address is ok. I get a message that your computer won't accept it, so must think it's spam or something. But the reply ALWAYS functions, or has until now. I can't make it out but it is your end, everything else is working.

Hi Jaydee,

I think everything I have tried has come back including to Michelle & that was not on reply. I asked my server & they say sometimes there can be a fault where 'reply' doesn't work & to contact aol.com. Have you received anything?
All my other mail seems ok.

Hi,
I don't know whether this will help, but in White's 1859 directory there are the two following entries -
Mrs ELIZABETH KILL, 8 Fanshawe St, Southampton
GEORGE KILL, shoemaker, 3 Strand, Southampton.

Best of luck, FredP.

Thanks Fred,
Don't have either of those two. Think we are getting somewhere now, with some of them anyway!
Merry Christmas all.
