It appears to refer to Section B of the Army Reserve. This was a soldier who had completed his regular army service and was serving his normal reserve commitment. At a guess, he had previously served 5 years and then was called up for war service as he had a seven year reserve commitment. The date is probably that of which the latter expired.
The annotation to the right of clasp is an internal departmental reference of which there are there are no longer any records.

he would have been about 18-19 in 1914, he was born in 1896
wonder if he was a boy cadet or something ??
he was still a soldier in 1920 when he got married
confusing thing is I thought he suffered lung damage through gassing, he always suffered from ill health and died in 1946, so I thought he would have been medically retired but can find no pension record

In which case he may well have joined the regular army in 1914 for seven years and then served five years on the reserve, which would match the dates.
