Our Cameron family history gives Robert Cameron marrying Jane Elerington in 1754 at Long Newton , Durham.
Would there be parish records that might give a clue as to who were Roberts parents and his birth date.

IGI Batch Numbers for Long Newton show no results for any Cameron marriages or births other than

Robert Cameron m Jane Elerington 12 May 1754, which you already have, and Robert Cameron b 22 Feb 1755, parents Robert Cameron and Jane, which I'm sure you also have.

There are no other El(l)erington marriages or births either. So it looks like both of them came from outside the parish, which is unusual. I had a quick look at some nearby villages and found nothing.

However, if you can manage to look at the originals of these entries, particularly the marriage, you're quite likely to find the parish(es) of origin recorded in the entry.

According to the Genuki page for Long Newton, the church records are at the Durham County record office, County hall, Durham DHI 5UL

You could also try the following;
Northumberland and Durham family History society at www.ndfhs.org.uk/

www.durhamrecordsonline.com/index.php

or the Joiner marriage database, which is a marriage index for the North of England,a bit like Boyds or Pallots; www.joinermarriageindex.co.uk

Good luck, regards birdlip

Thanks for your help.
It is possible that Robert and possibly Jane came down from Scotland after the wars up there.
