What were the requirements for a soldier to be eligible for the Crimea War Medal?

Hi Ianmac,

You could take a look at this site for a bit more detail:

www.
btinternet.com/~james.mckay/crimedal.htm

and perhaps this:

Thanks for the replies.
My gr gr grandfather enlisted as a Sapper in February 1855, spent 5 months in Crimea, then a number of years in Malta before spending the rest of his service years in the UK & Ireland. I wondered if there was a minimum length of time on a campaign before the medal would be awarded. I haven't found his name (John McInnes) in the medal roll as yet.

I read yesterday that a soldier ariving in the Crimea after the fall of Sebastopol in September 1855 would not be eligible for the medal unless he engaged the enemy after that date. It seems possible that this may have been the case with John McInnes.
