Does anyone have access to the 1841 census of Markinch Fife? I am looking for the following >> Alexander Melvill[e] b 1789, his wife Agnes b 1791 and their children Clementina Melvill[e] b 1820, Alexander Melvill[e] 1822, Janet Duncan Melvill[e] 1828 and Agnes Robertson Melvill[e] b 1830. All were born in Fife. I would be very grateful.

Have you looked on Scotlands People ? There are some Melville's on http://
freecen.rootsweb.com/ which is free but im not sure how complete it is. I will leave you to the fun of the search ;)

Hi Tracey. Thanks for your help. They are not on either site. Perhaps they skipped the country! Cheers

Hi,

I don't have the family on 1841, but on 1851 and 1861 there seems to be Alexander born 1822 and his family. He is with Agnes.

On 1851 he is down as Alexr Melvill from Moorlinch , Fifeshire living in Ealesham,Renfrewshire.

On 1861 he is Alexander Melville from Markinch,Fifeshire, living in Eaglesham, Renfrewshire.

Do you already have this info?

There are two more children in Markinch Batch C114477 - ROBERT ROBERTSON MELVILL b.1824 and WILLIAM STEWART ROBERTSON MELVILL b.1826.
But I can't find either of them in the indexes. |banghead|

Hi, floramaggie
It seems that this family has already been researched, there are several entries for all six of the children in the on-line I.G.I.
To ignore these "extra entries" search the I.G.I. for - Father's Name, Mother's Name, All Events, British Isles, Batch C114477.
Alternatively, access the Markinch Batches via Hugh Wallis' site.
Hope this helps!

Hi Mary. Thanks Ill try that. The frustrating thing is I find a few of my lines have been researched but I dont know how to find the person researching them. They arnt listed on the ancestral findings page of the IGI. Cheers Flora
