family legend has it that a Mark Siddall was hanged in Derby Jail in 1849. I have looked on a number of sites without finding any information on a hanging, but the GENUKI site for Derbyshire does record someone of this name being imprisoned for larceny in 1847. An e-mail to the address given on the site has been returned.
Please, can anyone advise ? Mark was from the Whittington area and a side branch of my maternal family.

Found this -
1847 Jun 29 Mark SIDDALL 43 larceny 3 months
on a website -
http://www.multiline.com.au/~jeand/jweb/data/1847.html
which seems to indicate that he got 3 moths in prison for larceny as you mention.
I also discovered the following -
061 MARK SIDDALL Newbold died 1849 at Derby
regarding Derby Administrations although no mention of the reasons behind the death of Mark Siddall there.
Couldn't find any mention of a hanging, but perhaps there may be a starting point there?
A search of the lists of executions failed to provide any mention of Mark Siddall - so perhaps he died from other causes ?

Thank you for your interest and advice. I shall try all the sites you mention and report back, as what I find - even if in the negative - may be useful to others.
