Anybody looking for any of the JOHNSON family (Sowerby - later Middlesbrough), TAYLOR family (Crakehall and Northallerton), MITCHINSON family (Brompton), or CALVERT family (Northallerton)? If you are, perhaps we can compare and hopefully help each other :-)

Does your Taylor family include a Robert (currier) and his wife Mary Ann?

Children were Elizabeth (b. 1814), Edward (b. 1816), Frances Maria (b. 1818), Samuel Fordham (b. 1820), Martha (b. 1823) and Nathan Edgar (b. 1825).

Hi there

Unfortunately I don't believe there is any connection between our Taylors. My Taylors arrived in Northallerton in the late 19th century from Crakehall, and I think from further afield beforehand.

The earliest Taylor I have is William (b. Kilham 1818), who was in Crakehall by the 1850s. His son George (b. Crakehall 1858) had moved to Brompton by 1881, and onto Northallerton by 1891.

If your ancestors are from Thornaby they are in the North Riding. Thornaby is very near my home town of Middlesbrough which is on the very edge of the Yorkshire/Durham boundary.

Sadly, there is no connection to my Johnson ancestors. They came from Sowerby in the early 1800s before moving to Ripon, Thirsk, and Middlesbrough by the late 1800s.

Hi

Do you have any more info on your John Calvert? There are a couple of John's in my tree, but I don't have any marriage info. There is one born in 1835 and another in 1802, both born in Northallerton.

Is your John Calvert born 1835 the son of Samuel Calvert and Betty Hartley? If he is then we are related? Please let me know! If this is the case then you are connected to the Calverts who ran the rope works in Wrenthorpe.

Francis

I'm afraid I believe my John of 1835 is the son of Christopher Calvert and Charlotte Dunn. However there seem to have been quite a few Calverts in Northallerton at that time, so they may have been related.

I have a Hannah Mitchinson born 1801 married to Henry Thompson in 1818. Her father was John a shoemaker who married Ann Thompson 1791 Brompton.

Is there a connection?

Hi Katie123

Yes there is a link. I am directly related to Hannah's brother William (1791-1871), and their parents were John (no more info) and Ann Thompson (abt 1770-1818, buried 17/4/1818 at Brompton). They were married on 8/2/1791 in Brompton. That is the furthest back I have got with those family lines.
