I am looking for information on my wife's (nee Trim) great-grandfather George Trim.
George was born on 2 October, 1838 to Thomas White Trim and Susannah, nee Gerrard, in Chideock Dorset. He emigrated to Australia in 1882 and married in Brisbane, Queensland later that year. His marriage certificate says he was a widower; he must have married in Dorset and lost he wife at some time. Previous searches revealed he had a sister, Sarah.

That is all I know of his English history - did he have children in England? - are there parallel branches of the family in both countries?

Hi

In 1841 Thomas Teen 25 Ag Lab
Susan 20 wife
George 2
Sarah 1

All born in County

I did manage to find Susannah Jerrad's christening 9.5.1819 to Joseph and Susannah Jerrard.

I could not find Thomas Christening or any Trims in the Christening before 1851.

If you have Thomas marriage then you will get his fathers name on the certifiate

I could not find any of them after 1841.

I should add that the 1841 Ancestry census it was spelt wrong and on the census sheet it was Trim.

Thanks Irene

I wonder where George finished up in England - there seems to be no trace after 1841 - yet we know he married and then migrated. A real mystery!

You will need to check the image, as the transcript says his wife is 62.

Christine

I am going to accept that Anna was his wife even with the 20 year age difference.

His mother's name was Susannah.

A Jenny sent me an email which provided me with the death of Anna Trim in Jan-Mar 1882 at Barton Regis.

George migrated the same year and when he married in Brisbane, he entered his marital state as 'widower'. He married a girl from Dorset just near where he was born. In the second case, George was 14 years older than his bride although he claimed he was but 39 instead of 44!

Hi Eric,
Think this may be the marriage of George and Anna (from FreeBMD)

Marriages Sep 1866

COPHAM Tom Taunton 5c 582
PRING Amelia S Taunton 5c 582
TRIM George Taunton 5c 582
VIRGIN Anna Taunton 5c 582

The other two on this page are connected to my family, so I am certain that
George married Anna. I also found the death record and noticed that Anna was 61. Close enough to the census age to convince me. A marriage of convenience perhaps. You could always order the cert to make sure.

Found a few other bits that you may find useful (from Bishop's Transripts of
Chideock PRs)

Marriage of Joseph Jerrard and Susanna Spiller 10 July, 1817, Chideock

Baptism of Susannah Jerrard 09 May, 1819 daur. of Joseph and Susannah ,
Chideock

Burial of Susannah Jerrard 14 Dec. 1874 Age 83 Chideock

Cheers,
Victoria
