Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help me. Joseph Whiley m Susannah (Overton I think) but I can't find a record of their marriage. I am also looking for any children, the 1881 census list a daughter Annie b about 1864 Addlethorpe and I haven't been able to find any others. I am basing my assumption of Susannah's surname on the 1881 census. Susannah Overton (widow) is listed as the head of the house with Susannah Whiley daughter and Joseph Whiley son in law and Annie grandaughter. I am hoping someone can help me to fill in the gaps.

Regards
Fiona

So with the eldest being 8 years old, the marriage is before civil reg.
I'll try finding them in 1861, to see where the older kids were born.

Cousin ChristineR :)

edit: but then remember it's young Susannah's marriage you are after.

I always doublecheck there before I post, as someone will point out the obvious :D but I usually then go use the free online images of the GRO index on ancestry since it has been available.

British Origins doesn't have Lincolnshire in the 1871 census yet.

Marriages Jun 1864
Stubbs John Shephard Spilsby 7a 1027
Whiley Maria Spilsby 7a 1027

Joseph's sister's marriage is there too now- wasn't last time I looked either.
I must have a look for George - are they his kids in the Whiley/Stubbs houshold in 1881. (John & Sarah)
Annie seems to be Joseph's firstborn.

Thanks for the info about Maria, I had a name but not a date. George married Ann Measures in 1871 Boston (Free bdm) Ann d June 1876 (bur 23 June 1876 St Peter & St Paul Burgh le Marsh). Yes they are George's children in the 1881 census. Sarah Ann m Herbert Lawrence 1898 Spilsby. John was a draper's assistant and lived in Hampshire in 1901 census.

I wonder if Annie might be Joseph's only child.

I must get into the habit of looking at the GRO index. I keep forgetting about that. Thank you for steering me in the right direction.

Hi Janet
Thank you for that. It is great to have the whole set. Did you notice if Joseph and Susannah were in the 1871 census? They were married by then and they mustn't have moved in with Susannah's mother until after her father died (by 1881 census). I was just wondering.
I really appreciate everyone's help

Hi Janet
Thank you so much. It does look like Joseph and Susannah only had the one child, well one that survived anyway.
