Hi
Can any one help me find John Pinnington born abt 1823 ( on the 1861 census it look's like Thoston ) Cheshire, he is living with his daughter Louisa born abt 1849 and son James born 1853in Farndon, Cheshire.
At this time John is a widow, this is why i need the 1851 census to find the name of his late wife.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Regards Sue

Sue,

I cannot find your John on the 1851 census, nor Louisa. I have looked through the village of Farndon via Ancestry and they are not there - perhaps they were absent on the night or the enumerator just missed them off. There is however this PINNINGTON in the 1851 census of Farndon and given his occupation I should think he is connected to your John:

HO107/2171, folio 85, page 20
Schedule 62

Edward PINNINGTON Head Mar 40 Boot & Shoe Maker Cheshire Bunbury
Sarah do Wife Mar 40 do do

This couple are still alive and living in Farndon in the 1861 census together with a brother George on RG9/2624, folio 26, page 10.

I then looked at the GRO Index to see if I could find any deaths of a female PINNINGTON between 1853 (when James was born) and 1861 when John is described as a widower - there were 2 in Great Boughton registration district (includes Farndon) an Ann in the June qtr 1855 vol 8a page 236 and a Sarah in March qtr 1858 volume 8a page 272. I then looked for a marriage prior to 1849 when Louisa was born and found a John PINNINGTON married June qtr 1846 at Great Boughton reg district volume 19 page 59 and one of the other names on the page was a Sarah MAYERS. Unfortunately, neither Louisa nor James' births seem to have been registered (although there is a James George registered at Nantwich in June 1852 vol 8a page 296??) so I think the only way you are going to prove who is their mother and John's wife is to look through the parish registers of Farndon or send for Sarah's death certificate and see if her husband is named as John.

I have found the following family on the 1841 census of Tilstone, Bunbury who look as though they could be John & his family:

HO107/96/12, folio 6, page 5

Jane PINNINGTON 60 Born in county yes
George do 30 Shoe M yes
Edward do 25 do yes
William do 20 do yes
John do 15 do yes

Sorry not to be of more help.

Janet
