Am trying to trace the Cameron family, in particular a WWI serviceman John Cameron who died during the war. The family came from Lemington, Newcastle.

I also have ancestors in Lemington so I thought I would look up Cameron for you.
1901 Census RG13/4818 Page 42 Civil Parish Newburn Hall:
Joseph Cameron (Head) age 48 Steel Foundry Labourer. Born Wigton, Cumberland.
Charlotte (Wife) age 47 Born Lemington
(All the following Children were born in Lemington)
Mary Jane age 14
Joseph age 12
John age 9
On the 1891 Census there were more children;
Thomas age 18
William age 16
Elizabeth age 14
Margaret age 9
Isabella age 6
On both census they were living at 9 High Row, Lemington.
I also found the marriage of Joseph Cameron and Charlotte Sayburn June quarter 1873 in Newcastle T.
Hope this is of some help.
(Should any of them be related to a Danskin, Hart or Hannant they could be attached to my tree...!!!)

Thanks for looking this up. Would any of the information you found show that they were Catholic? I'm sorry to say I haven't come across any of the names you mentioned at the end of your message.
Thanks again.

Hi
I can't answer your question but I've just looked on the 1901 census and it shows the Ecclesiastical Parish as Holy Saviour, Sugley. I was married at Holy Saviour Church, Sugley so I know it well - it is Church of England, however, the Catholic Church is it's next door neighbour! (With the Methodist Chapel only a few 'doors' along the street) so you won't be surprised to know the nicknake for the area is The Holy City...!!!
Good luck

Thanks again - I can contact the archives to see if they have the relevant baptism records. As I live in the south of England they may look it up for me if I ask nicely!
