I've just received a death certificate, where the cause of death reads:

"Fracture of base of skull through accidently falling while in an epileptic fit and originating from a cerebral tumour. 7 hours"

Why should it say 7 hours at the end?

Hi David,
I think you will find that 7 hours is the length of time elapsing between the time of the initial facture of the skull and death, i.e. the start of the cause of death and death itself.

Thought so.
Thanks,

Yes, I have one of those too. A gt-gt-grandmother's death certificate (1872) states "rupture of varicose vein of leg, 15 minutes", rather frightening for her daughter-in-law who is listed as being present at the death.
