My great great uncle Frederick James March (born c. 1907) was a Leitenant in the Royal Navy and died on the 1st June 1941 when the HMS Calcutta was sunk by German bombs during the battle of Crete.

Where can I find things like the ships movements?

I found an online source once which logged the major movements of Naval ships but I cant find it again.

I would also love to find his service records but according to the Veterans Agency I have to get permission of his next of kin.

As he died without children (I think) does a great great nephew count?

If you are the closest living relative, or acting with his/her permission then you may apply for his service record.

Good places to look for information on the ship are:
TNA research guides (click on 'R' and look at links headed 'Royal Navy')

Welcome in MDymott, unfortunately both the contributors to this thread are no longer members of Brit-Gen. The word 'guest' underneath their user names is the clue. :smile5: "Guests' do not receive notification of replies to their threads as we do not keep any information on them.
It may be that they still look in to the forums on occasion but if not your post is now out there for future researchers to see and maybe make contact.
