My uncle was killed, in action, in Italy on 3/3/1944. His death certificate states his age as 19 years but according to his birth certificate he was only 17 years old.
I have been trying to google to see if I can find out where in Italy he would have died. Anzio comes up as a possible place. Anyone know their history of WWII that can help please.

Mutley, a 2nd cousin (x1 removed) of mine was in the Canadian Irish Rifles. Trained in UK. Killed Italy Oct. 1944 & was buried in Cesena war Cemetery in Italy. It is a beautiful Cemetery, wonderfully preserved, (just around the corner from my D-I-Ls FAmily home.)

I'm unsure if this is going to be similar/same as Wendy has already posted - advance apologies to both of you, nothing worse than a repeat!

irishbrigade.co.uk

They have a Roll of Honour list for 1st London Irish Rifles (and 2 London Irish Rifles) 1942-1946 which lists name, service no. date of death, age and place of burial.
There is lots of other info, including War Diaries for Jan to Dec 1944...there was a lot of rain in March 1944!

Worth a look - assuming you haven't already seen it
