RN record - what does this mean?

Hoping someone knows what this means - in the remarks section of my grand dad's service record - just under where it comments on his desertion. In 1914 when he enlisted in in WW1 in Australia he said he had brought his way out for twelve pounds. Could it be a reference to that?

I thought at first that it related to his G1 conduct badge as it has (1) above it, that was given 19-5-06.
