Hi Everyone,

I am currently researching my fathers family and l have a photo that has on the back Jack Burnige, his wife and four daughters in Australia, the stamp from the photographer on the rear is from Medina, Western Australia and the date 24 October 1932. Does anyone have any idea how l would search for these people, l have tried immigration and shipping records and have found nothing?

Hi,
you can search the WA BDM indexes for free here:
http://www.justice.wa.gov.au/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_323_201_0_43/http%3B/justicecontent.extranet.justice.wa.gov.au/_apps/pioneersindex/default.aspx?uid=0308-0996-4747-9523

But the records are limited to 1905 online. I just had a quick search over births and marriages for the name "Burnige" as you spelt it, and burn* but found nothing similar to the name you spell. Are you sure you have the correct spelling there? Otherwise, you will need someone who can access the microfiche after the online cutoff date of 1905. Do you know anything else about the family that may help us locate them (maybe they were in another state before 1932?) ???

Sorry I can't help you with WA records any further, good luck with your search.

Regards,
Bridget.

Hi!

Medina is a suburb of Perth. Just a thought, but perhaps the photo was from a holiday or something like that????

Could the surname be Burrige? as one of those comes up in the online telephone listings in Western Australia. Burnige doesn't seem to exist as a surname, but Burnage does (but not WA)

Hi thanks to all that responded. From the photo l would say that they lived there as the photo is taken in a house in Medina. The surname may have been miss spelt as my grand mother is listed as Burrige in the Marriage Indexes in England
