Hi everyone, I am new to this list, and am trying to trace my great grandmother, Frances Rebecca Turner, born in Louth in about 1864(according to the 1901 census)
At some stage she moved to Sheffield, and by 1890 was married to Fred Holyoak. She died in 1908 in Wincobank, Sheffield.
Grateful for any information or suggestions!
Margaret

Hi Eileen,
THANK YOU SO MUCH! the Louth family is something I've been stuck with for ages, as I didn't know her parents names. Now I can look further back! Their daughter (my grandmother) was christened Sarah Jane, presumably after her aunt. Yes they lived at Wincobank, near Sheffield, and the Holyoak family came from Pertenhall in Beds. Both their sons, John, b 1890 and Edward b1893, were killed in the first World War within a few months of each other. Gran (b1894) was devastated. Thanks again, Margaret

Hi Margarett
Glas to help. You didn't mention the 1881 census so presumably you have that and the details from the CWGS site for John & James.

Hi Eileen,
I didn't have the 1881 census, but with the help of your information I think I've found John and Mary, they've moved to Wincobank in Sheffield, which solves the question of how my great grandparents met! They had 3 young sons by then, but the girls had left home. I think I found Rebecca (without the Frances), a domestic servant in Southcotes in Yorkshire. No sign of her sisters, though they could be married. I've also found Fred and Frances Rebecca's wedding on free bmd, and John T and Mary's wedding at Louth in March 1859, which gives me her surname!! So I really feel I've made great progress.
thanks again
Margaret

PS Yes I have the CWGS site info for John and Edward - my cousin and I visited their graves near Ypres last year.
