Hello!
I am beginning to research my family, I started with copying everything out of my grandmother's family bible.

The first thing written (copied as written)was the following:

"A true copy from the Parish register of the Parish of Wingfield in the County of Suffolk, England. This copy taken from the aforesaid register, the fourth day of April, 1809...

Philip Hart, son of Joseph and Abigail Hart, was born at Wingfield, the 17th day of March, 1776; Baptized the ninth day of June, 1776.

Philip Hart married to Elizabeth Crickmar, by the Rev. George Betts, Wortham, October the 20th, 1807.

George Hart, son of Philip and Elizabeth Hart, Born August the 18th, 1809.

Pleasant Hart, daughter of Joseph and Abigal Hart married Philip Roper.

Isabella Hart, daughter of Joseph and Abigal Hart married Earl Buxton."

How do I go about verifying this information? Are these records still available? My grandmother passed away in 1998 and she has no living siblings to get information from.

Thank you for any and all help and/or suggestions.

In view of your location, you may not find it very convenient to pop into Suffolk Record Office ;) .

You might want to check out whether the Mormons have filmed the records you want so that you can view them for yourself at one of their Family History Centres

You can go one better than viewing the records at an LDS centre - Suffolk Record Office actually sell copies of their original records on microfilm & microfiche! The records for Wingfield are available on microfiche. It is not cheap, buying copies of the original records, & you do need access to a microfilm or microfiche reader (which you will probably find at your local library), but is well worth it. You can look through the records at your leisure. They usually contain baptism, marriage & burial records, plus often banns of marriage & maybe other parish records.

I have bought some of the Suffolk church register copies & found the Suffolk Office staff very helpful. The original records contain information that is missing from the IGI records, eg name & occupation of groom & bride & groom's fathers in post 1837 marriages; occupation & place of residence of father in baptisms; age at death & place of residence in burials 1813 - 1837. Sometimes you are extremely lucky & find that the minister has recorded info about the parents & grandparents of the bride & groom!

One thing which might not be obvious to somebody who has not used them before is that you do not have to buy the entire parish register - 19 fiche in the case of Wingfield.

As have I. There is nothing online (or even in their paper Guide) which lists what is covered by individual fiche, but if you get in touch and tell them which events and which years you need to cover, they will put you straight.
