John Acaster born Brotherton 1839

John Acaster brought wife and family of four to Winnipeg, Canada, in 1870. We have pretty full record of the following events there to the present day. John, son of Thomas, (a mariner), son of William,(a waterman), was born in Brotherton in 1839. He married Elizabeth Smeaton in 1867, d/o John and Maria Warris, at Sheffield. John's siblings included Anne, Jane, and Elizabeth; William, Robert Sawyer, Thomas and Thomas Fredric. Elizabeth though to have married a Dixon; Thomas Fredric known to have married Martha Room at Hudddersfield with eight male descendants.

Question: Who and where are the connections in York or elsewhere? and particularily who was the wife of Thomas whose name was Mary?

All responces welcome and appreciated, including tips where else to look.

on bmd-23 609-thomas acaster married caroline curtis 1842 june quarter, york,you never know!

i have looked for these two ladies to see if there is a connection with york and found these on lds,
mary sawyer born 4 march 1787 staveley, father john sawyer.
caroline curtis born 18 jan 1821 ripon,-father mathew curtis mother ann.
both these places are in north yorkshire,
i don't know if they will help you but there you go.

Hi George H: First things first.Thanx for your 3x replies. I appreciate them and the effort to do that. And next, my posting was in error as to date of immigration - this was 1883. Original posting was corrected once but correction seems lost.
1870 was the birth date of John's second daughter Elizabeth my grandmother. I agree Thomas married Mary Sawyer 7 Aug 1821 at Brotherton. John's certifed birth cert says his parents were Thomas Acaster and "Mary Acaster(formerly Sawyer)" and cites his birth at Brotherton, as 19 Jan 1839 - the family observed date. But John said his mother was Mary Collard, inferring a second marriage of Thomas in his early life. Have not found either the death or burial of Mary Sawyer nor a connection of Thomas and Collard either in Civil or Church records up to 1846. I'll search further I think up to 1849-50 and advise. They form part of the Acaster family tree going back 3 more generations that I have assembled while tracing many of my own Townsley relatives from Brotherton, Yorkshire.
