Could anyone please find any details of George and Amy Nicholls nee Walton who emigrated from England in the early 1900s?
This was George's second marriage I believe and they had 3 children - Aubrey (male), Sylvia and George junior.
I understand that George senior was the head/principal of a large school possibly in Sidney.
Amy Walton was my grandfather's youngest sister born in Severn Stoke, (Kinnersley) Worcestershire in 1877.
I have no details of George's background.
Would really appreciate any help with any details that can be found.

Dear Fiona
Thanks for the look up. Can you explain further....is the mother's name listed after the birth name + the place name?

Hi Jenny
The first names are marriages ie eg Aubrey m Alma Sternbeck in 1923 in Taree, the number at the beginning is the regerstation number if you want to order the marriage certificate
The deaths are eg Amy Nicholls d 1950 Father Oswald John, Mother Violet Pearl registered in Sydney and the reg. number is at the beginning of the record.
I just cut and pasted straight from the NSW bdm website. I'm sorry if it wasn't clear
I couldn't find any deaths for Aubrey or George but that just means that it didn't happen in NSW before 1975

Dear Fiona
Many thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately from the info none of the deaths are accurate for Amy as her mother was Harriet Smith and her father Charles Walton. I will ask mum if the marriage spouses' names for the children ring bells....they were her cousins so she is really interested to see if we can trace any descendants.
Thankyou again.

Hi Jenny,

I had another look at the NSW BDM site after looking through your correspondence and found the following:

Aubrey Nichols (d. 1922) - father: George, mother: Amy (registration no: 13500, registration district: Granville.

Will keep looking around.

Noting the surname variety between Nichols/Nicholls, also found that there are 28 George Nichols listed as marrying in NSW between 1900 and 1955. Not knowing exactly how old George is, you could probably discount around 2/3 of them if he did end up marrying. The link is:

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/IndexSearch?form=IndexingSearch&cgiurl=%2Fcgi-bin%2FIndex%2FIndexingMarriage.cgi&event=marriages&sname=nichols&gname=george&fname=&mname=&frange=1900&trange=1955&place=&SessionID=5659849&x=0&y=0

You could probably use the same surname variety between other family members. I did find a Sylvia Nichols marrying in the late 1930s. A general search on the net found a family tree of that particular Sylvia Nichols, but the parents names do not match up.

Melissa,
Many thanks for pursuing this search.
We think that Amy and George may have married in Paris before emigrating to Australia in the early 1900s.
We know that George senior was a Head or Principal of a school or college - one visited by the Royals when on an official tour to Australia in the 1920s - but mum can't remember where the school was or its name, unfortunately.
Did you mean that Aubrey died in 1922?
Thanks.

Hi Jenny

Just poking around a found that if your Sylvia married Horace LARKIN in 1923, she died 1972 @ Bulli NSW, which is south of Sydney just out of the metropoliton area.

However the parents names listed are given as George & Harriet & Sylvia's middle name as Eva...this research for ancestors is a huge process of elimination isn't it..

I will keep looking for you

Hi Jenny,

Yep, if the Aubrey I mentioned is the same one in your research, then he died in 1922. I'll do a bit of a search around to see if I can find out a list of schools that were visited by the royals on their tour.

Hi again,

Had a quick look around and can't find much detail of an itinerary on the net for the 1927 Royal Tour. My best suggestion would be to make contact with the National Archives in Canberra. Their website is: www.naa.gov.au
