I am looking for directions to the correct microfilm series at The National Archives to locate personnel information about my 2 x Great Grandfather James Earls.
James Earls was born c. 1796 in Ireland. I have a record of him being on strength in pay records for the Royal Staff Corps in New South Wales September 1826 and subsequent pay records (1827) suggest he was sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) for garrison duty at Westbury.
Other evidence in my possession confirms James Earls’ discharge from the Royal Staff Corps about June 1829 also in Van Diemen’s Land.
I suspect he joined the Royal Staff Corps around 1824- 1825 in either Ireland or England.
In addition to finding records of his enlistment and thereby his place and date of birth etc. I’d like to know when and how he arrived in Australia with this regiment.
Thanks for any assistance.
Donald
ps I've posted this message in the "Australia' forum as well.
