Butler

I believe my Great Grandfather Albert John Bulter came from Jersey. He was born around 1874 and married Maud Duke in 1909 in Alverstoke, Southampton.
On there Marriage certificate it states Alfred's Dad John William Butler was a Master Mariner and that Alfred was a Mariner.

I cant find out any more info. It could be that Alfred was not born in Jersey.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Looks like this could be your family, living at 14 Commercial St, St Helier, Jersey on the 1881 Census below: RG11/5610/10 Page 15: Family History Library Film: 1342348.
NOTE: This Albert is shown as Albert C. Carter. Do you think Albert may have married BEFORE he married Maud in 1909? - see the 1901 Census below for Alfred C. Butler. I know it's not ALBERT, but the enumerators sometimes got it wrong!
Albert's 'possible' father JOHN BUTLER is listed on the 1851 Census with his 6 siblings & parents: George b: c. 1802 a CARTER from WAREHAM, England & Mother Elizabeth b: c. 1812 Eng.

In 1861 John's father was a WIDOW and JOHN was a "SEAFARING MAN" from St Brelade, living at the QUAY in St Brelade with brother URIAH or URICK and sister JANE.

In 1871 Albert BUTLER, Son 8 months from St Helier, with his mother Elizabeth at 14 Commercial Road, St Helier (same address as in 1881) - father not home, but mother showing as married. His mother may have used her 2nd name, as she is listed as Jane E. Butler on the 1881 Census, the 'E' could be Elizabeth?

Another 1881 Census reference for an Albert Butler, aged 10, was found listed at the Jersey Industrial School for Boys.

Also on the LDS FamilySearch site, they have a record for ALBERT C. BUTLER, born ABOUT 1870, St Brelade, Jersey - Parents: John BUTLER & Jane E. HUARD who married ABOUT 1869 St Brelade, Jersey. Other children listed: Alfred J. BUTLER ABOUT 1873 Saint Helier, Jersey. Louisa J. BUTLER ABOUT 1877 St Helier, Jersey. Annaline F. BUTLER NOV 1880 St Helier.
