If you had/have an interest in Madresfield and the area please check my site.

Do you know who was the village constable in the late 19th century? I have a picture showing him with his family.

Thank you.

How late in the 19th century was this?

The 1881 census transcript gives this chap as local copper

Thank for your interest. The picture is black and white and the dress suggests late 1800's early 1900's but this is just my guess.

If you could put the photo on your web-site that may help - other than that I can only suggest browsing census returns and/or any surviving records of the local police force.

Thank you for your suggestion, I shall try to get a decent enlargement onto the web site.
Its funny how you miss the obsvious answer to a problem, and concnetrate on the minutii.

There is an old saying "When you are up to your butt in alligators its a job to remember your first objective was to drain the swamp."
