Hi

has anyone come across the marriage or offspring of Eleazar Batten and Frances Smith in their research please? Possibly in Berks, Hants or as a long shot London. We've been told it happened but have found no proof it would be in the 1600's, possibly late 1500's.

Most Battens were around Inkpen Berkshire before moving to London, Sidney stayed in Hungerford upto his death. I have heard this name before but my tree does not go back that far, my father is Geoffrey Batten son of Roland Batten and Veronica Douglas.
I will see what I can dig up for you.
My tree goes back past Valentine Batten.

Hi Susan,
I too have Eleazour Batten c 1635 and Frances Smith c 1640 as my 7th great grandparents. I have not studied the West Group or Christs Hospital Pedigrees which presumably should have the information that you want, but I do know that there is a lot of "dodgy" information which has been accepted over the past two centuries and today is agreed as fact.
Your best bet would be to get hold of the West Charity Administrator and Christs Hospital School and see what the actual pedigrees say.
