Back again!

Could some kind person please look for baptism records for the following folk:

JOHN CLARY of Charlbury & ANN HOLTHAM of Chipping Norton?

John and Ann married in Chipping Norton in 1825

I do have access to Oxford MARRIAGE records not baptism. Just typical!

Many thanks
Lynn

Lynn,

Given the date of their marriage, there are 2 baptismal possibilities for each.

From the OFHS PR Transcript of Chipping Norton:

25 October 1801 HOLTOM Ann daughter of Thomas & Ann
28 April 1805 HOLTOM Ann daughter of Robert & Mary

From the OFHS PR Transcript of Charlbury:

1 December 1797 CLARY John son of Benj. & Mary Charlbury
10 October 1806 CLARY John son of Jonathan & Ann Charlb.

Hope this helps.

Janet

Thank you for your help again Janet.

Think it may take me a while to sort out who is who here!

Lynn,

The 1851 census record might help clarify John's date of birth:

PRO Ref: HO107/1732/162-2a, folio 484, page 17
Schedule 53, Pembroke Street, Chipping Norton

John CLARY Head Widr 54 Tailor Oxon Charlbury
Jonathan do Son Un 23 Tailor do Chipping Norton
Henry do Son Un 18 Tailor do do
Louisa do Daur Un 13 Help in shop do do
Julia do Daur Un 8 Scholar do do

Given John's age of 54 and the fact that his eldest son was named Jonathan it looks pretty likely that he is the son of Jonathan & Ann. Finding Ann's parents are more problematical as the 1841 census rounds adults ages down to the nearest 5 years (theoretically at least!!) and it looks as if the Enumerator has done just that in the 1841:

PRO Ref: HO107/879/3, folio 23, page 13
Chipping Norton

John CLARY 35 Tailor Born in county yes
Ann do 35 yes
Jonathan do 13 yes
William do 9 yes
Henry do 7 yes
Clementia do 6 yes
Louisa do 4 yes
Julia do 1 yes

Good luck and hope this helps a bit.
