Hi,

I am trying to verify an IGI entry which gives a marriage between a John HAYMAN and a Jane (no surname given) as follows:

About 1815 Of Philip & Jacob, Bristol, Gloucester, England

John Hayman and Jane (nee Crudge) were my 3xgreat grandparents and the date and location are about right for their marriage.

I hope that some kind soul might have access the PRs for Philip and Jacob church and so may be able to identify the surname of Jane and the date for the marriage.

Thanks

Ivor

According to the CD from Bristol & Avon Family History Society, there is a marriage of John Hayman to Jane Crudge at Bedminster St. John on 17 Jul 1815. Both are stated as being of this parish. There is no indication of occupation. He is bachelor and she a spinster.

Hello Dave

I wonder if you would do a look up for me. Apologies for using this post, I am not sure how to contact you direct.

My relation William Chidger/Chidgey/Chedgey (difficult to read on the 1841 Census) married Elizabeth Hollister on 31/8/1822 at St Philip and Jacob Church, Bristol. Can you give me any info that is available. I am trying to establish if this couple is the same as on the 1841 Census Record - William and Elizabeth and Henry Chidger

Thanks in anticipation

Simon

I checked the entry you wanted on the B&AFHS marriages cd (transcribed records) and found the following

William Chidgey, otp, & Elizabeth Hollister, otp, married by banns 31 August 1822

hope this helps,

Hello Kandi

Thank you for this info, nothin more........? what does "otp" mean? No mention of a "Chedger" m Elizabeth (they are down as Chedger in the 1841 Census)?

Also I wonder if he was baptised in this Church perchance though I'm not sure where he was born?

Regards

Simon

Dave

The birth of David Bowen may also be in the parish record of St Philip and Jacob.

about 1788 would be the year to start with.

Any info greatly received.

I was wondering if it would be possible to look-up a marriage in St Philip and Jacob church? I am looking for a Henry Bath (born abt 1755 - not positive on that) to a Mary (possibly last name Essex?) or a William Bath to a Sarah (last name unknown). Wm was born abt 1779. Thank you.

Hi Brienne, the information I have only covers the years 1754 to 1812 and I've found a few Bath marriages although none of them quite fit! They are..........
William Bath m Sarah Main, 12/5/1794 at Bedminster St John, Bristol
James Bath m Sarah Lentell 20/11/1778 at St Philip and Jacob, Bristol
William Bath m Sarah Walley, 29/8/1763 at Christchurch, Bristol

I hope this helps but I'm not optimistic!

Thanks so much, Sue! You are right, they don't exactly fit, but I am adding them to my pile of Bath stuff in case I find a connection down the line. Do you only have marriage records - or do you have births, also? If so, would love to know any info for William Bath born abt 1779 (father, Henry and mother, Mary) or George Francis Bath (born abt 1812) - father, William and mother, Sarah (surname unknown). Thanks again! I totally appreciate your quick response! (Everyone is from Bristol).

I had a quick look at Bristol Diocese Baptismal Registers Vol 8-10 (Bristol & Avon FHS) index 1754-1812.........sorry nothing at all for either of them.

Sorry, I don't have births, apart from non conformist ones. I checked them just in case but there were no Williams or Georges.

Sue - one more quick question - The Wm bath who married Sarah Main in 1794 at Bedminster St. John, Bristol - did the record say who Wm's parents were? I could be off on the 1779 birthdate. Thanks again.

Hi Brienne, no sorry. Apart from stating that the bride and groom were both 'of this parish', there's no more information given.
