My gt grandfather Heinrich Ruckstuhl born in Switzerland in 1827 left there in 1853 to presumably fight for Britain in the Crimean War, possibly in a Swiss or German battalion. He never returned to Switzerland but by 1858 he was in Tudor Township in Canada accompanied by another Swiss man Casper Imbach. They were living amongst a group of Crimean War veterans led by a Captain Norman so it seems as if Britain may have given them land to settle on. I'm looking for any info I can get.
