Father

I know little to nothing about my father and would like help hiis name is James McCarthy from Cork born September 19,1895. He was possibly an orphan and came to Canada about 1912 - 1916. He was met by a brother Irenus ring (unsure of the spelling) in Montreal.
If anyone can guide me as how to obtain a birth certificate to help me trace his life I would greatly appreciate

He was drafted and joined July 26, 1918. You may consult the file yourself in Ottawa:

To obtain his birth certificate, you can fill out the form (http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm) and submit it with the correct fee (http://www.groireland.ie/fees.htm). It doesn't take that long.

www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ 1911. The Irish census is now online free for many counties so try there as well.

Only Dublin 1911 census up so far but Cork is fifth on the list and the intention is to have it all up by the end of the year for the whole country and then the 1901 will be done and made available. The great thing is, it is free, and you actually see the individual forms filled out and signed by our ancestors.
