My 3 greats grandfather Joseph WHARTON was born about 1776 somewhere in England, according to the 1841 census. He married twice, had kids and died in Dumfries, where he lived and worked as an ostler from before 1797 till his death in 1841.

There are several possible baptisms in IGI in Cumberland and Westmorland.

Does anybody have any info on a Joseph Wharton who went North around that time, or info in a will or apprenticeship?

Possibly we could share information re Wharton. I am looking for any descendants of Mary Wharton who was daughter of Edward Wharton (of Strickland Gate) who married Agnes Gayschall at Kendal, Jan. 25,1714. Mary was christened on Feb. 9, 1723 possibly at Kendal or Appleby, and married John Clark on December 25, 1735.

Do you know of any Warton family? No "h" in the name?
JOHN Clark, Senior, of Appleby, Buried Sept. 12, 1803, Age 87.
MARY Clark, Hospital. Widow, of Appleby, was Buried March 19, 1806, Age 84.
Would these be John and Mary Wharton who were married in 1735? And, if there was a "Senior" there had to be a "Junior." I am looking for him?

Any information that you might have about this family, would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer correspondence by e-mail
