Looking for any information on John CALLOW and unknown wife.
They had (at least) two daughters:
Jane CALLOW b. ~1816, Deptford, Kent (from 1871 & 1881 Census)
Catherine CALLOW b. ~1818, Sheerness, Kent (from 1871 & 1881 Census)

Jane and Catherine married brothers Thomas Nataniel and William Cranstoun DAY:
William Cranstoun DAY = Catherine DAY
04 Oct 1840, St. John, Waterloo, London
Thomas Nataniel DAY = Jane CALLOW
08 Nov 1845, Saint Bride Fleet St, London

For both marriages, John CALLOW is named as father of the bride and is given
as a Warrant Officer by profession.

I can find no further details of the birth of Jane or Catherine nor any further
details of father John and his unknown wife. Does anybody out there have any
possible links to this family?

Nick Wilkinson.

Hello Nick, Wish I could lay claim to this branch of the Callow's but I can't. However, I looked on the 1871 census for you and found a widowed John Callow aged 79 living in Camberwell. He was a brass finisher by trade and claimed his birthplace as Southwark. Doesn't quite tie in I know but would you like further details? Regards Christine Callow.

Thanks Christine.
As you say, it is very unlikely that he is the father of (my) Jane and Catherine. But....? I have access to the 1871 Census, so there is no need for you to send more details.

As you probably know Catherine married William Cranstoun-Day, who was my Great-Great-Grandfather.
I have some further info complied by my ancestors as follows:

John Callow had over 40 years service in the Navy, during
the wars with France, Spain and Holland. 1795-1815.
While a Midshipman (1797) he hauled down the mutineers'
flag at the Mutiny of the Nore and brought H.M.S.
"Monmouth" into port. Received the thanks of the King
and House of Commons. Steered "Monmouth?, the flagship
of the Earl of Northesk at Battle of Camperdown, llth.
October 1797. In later years commanded "Black Prince".
Medal with "Camperdown" clasp.

James Callow, son of above, fought in the Baltic and Black
Sea during war with Russia ,(1854-56) and had general
service in East Indies and China.
Served in H.M.S."Cyclops" and the "Great Eastern" when
laying the Atlantic cable.

Both the aforementioned gents medals are in my possession, attached, pics of said medals.

That pretty much wraps up the extent of my info,
sorry it took so long to reply, I had to go all the way back to 1760 :)
