I need help finding a birth registration abt 1835 for a son of Sarah Nicholls by the name of Joseph born in Warwick. Sarah married Daniel Bruyn 1837 as I'm trying to find out if Daniel is his biological father.

Just further to Wayne's request.. the 1851 census has Joseph as born abt 1835 at Bm, Warwickshire. The Bm is an abbreviation of something.

I have two possibilities regarding Joseph Nicholls mother because:

The 1851 Census (which has his surname as Brueyn) says Sarah Nicholls was born in Smethwick, Stafford.

1851 Census says Joseph was 16yo and Margaret was 13yo and both born Birmingham Warwick.

Margaret Bruyn was born in 1837 which means Joseph was born 1834.

There is a Christening record in Birmingham. Warwick 1834 with mother Sarah Nicholls and father Joseph.

Sarah Bruyn ne: Nicholls died in Dungog NSW Australia 4 May 1882 aged 75 which means she was born 1806 and was Abt. 28 when she had Joseph (3 years before her marriage to Daniel Bruyn).

This leads me to the following choices:

Sarah Nicholls Christening: 16 NOV 1806 Smethwick, Stafford, England with father Josiah and mother Ann (may be Joseph as there are two other children about this time in Smethwick with mother of Ann but father is Joseph). Which means I still need to find his birth if it's recorded anywhere or Sarah put her father's name on the birth registration below.

Joseph Nicholls Christened: 23 March 1834 Aston Juxta Birmingham, Warwick, England with father Joseph Nicholls and mother Sarah Nicholl

or Sarah was married before she married Daniel and Nicholls isn't her birth surname.

Help finding info regarding these issues is greatly appreciated.

ok,

Looks like Sarah Nicholls was not married when she has Joseph abt, 1834 so I'm still looking for his birth record (if there is one). 1851 Census says he was born Birm Warwick abt 1835 as was 16 yo at time of census.

In that day and time did unwed mothers sometimes put their father as the childs father?
