Hi,
I know this isn't exactly about genealogy but i need help.
I have searched the electoral register on 1837 online for a living relative and a few matches have come up, does anyone know if i can find out how old the people are in the addresses i have found?

Hi,

No, I do not think you can obtain ages, if my memory serves me correctly I do not think we have to enter them each year. Of course those listed would have to be over 18 to vote and I believe those over 70 may not be included.

Hopefully if I am wrong someone will reply!

Regards,

Elley

I think you may be wrong on the over 70 bit, only because I needed the address of a long lost relative very recently and got it from the elctrol role and I am sure he was over 70, though I could be wrong!!

Hi,

Of course you are right. I was thinking of the ticking of the box (at 70?) when you do not have to do jury service anymore. Juries are selected from the Electoral Rolls.

My Apologies,

Elley

Of course those listed would have to be over 18 to vote It might well have been over 21, the age at which one was eligible to vote was reduced some years ago, my memory doesn't serve me well enough to recall when.
