Hi I have a birth cert which states parents as Ann Richardson and Matthew Richardson. Ann Formerly Walton.
I have her with the family in 1881 stating she was born 1843 Hamsterly Durham. But in 1884. She was living at Collingwood Street Hetton Downs Hetton Le Hole.
I can't locate her marriage any clues as where to look next please? I know by 1891 Matthew was remarried.

Hi
Maybe you're looking for the Marriage a little too early - Ann was unmarried in 1871.

Thanks for that! in 1881 I have found a Matthew and Ann Richardson living at 14 Bridge St Helmington Row Dur. Have a son listed as Mark 12 Crook.
Would Wheats Bottom (?) be near Crook? Do you think this is the same Mark and parents? What can I do to verify? His birth cert?

Hi
Yes, the Durham County Record Office site refers to Crook for records of Wheatbottom.
Certainly the 1871 Census confirms that Mark is the son of Ann Walton and the 1881 Census names him as Richardson, but that's not proof that he was Matthew's son.
You would need to obtain a Baptism Record or the Birth Certificate for Mark Walton to see if a father was recorded - there's a chance no father will be recorded on either.
It wasn't unusual for the child of an unmarried mother to take a future Husband's surname.

Thanks for that, I have found a possible birth for Jane Ann Walton in Auckland but can't seem to find Mark! Will keep open mind regarding his father being Matthew!
Thanks Helen.
