Hi, I don't know whether this will be of any help, I came across this site last week, and am aiming to get as much info off my grandmothers about the experiences they know of their fathers and husbands while serving for our country, so I can get their names in - they all deserve to be on there - wartime memories.

Its well worth a look anyway, and a wonderful way of preserving the stories of our War Heroes!

Good Luck, Claire.

Google throws up pages and pages. For example, a picture -

http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/arethusa_class_1913.htm#HMS%20Aurora

I'm not familiar with naval service records but this research guide might help -

HMS Aurora was a Light Cruiser of the Aretuhusa Class. She was laid down at Devonport Dockyard in October 1912 and completed in October 1914. She was armed with 2x six inch guns, 6 x 4 inch guns, 2 x 3 inch Anti-aircraft guns and 8 torpedo tubes. This class of ship was noted for being very cramped internally. She served through out WW1 and in 1920 was placed under command of the Royal Canadian Navy. Aurora was the seventh of 12 RN ships to bear that name and was named after the Roman Godess of Dawn.

My Great Uncle, James Alexander Taylor, was a RN Bandsman, later RM Bandmaster 1st Class, who served on the seventh (of ten) ships to bear the name Aurora. He saw action in the Boxer Rebellion of 1900 aboard Aurora, for which he received the China Medal. Sadly, he died along with 1265 other shipmates at the Battle of Jutland when the Queen Mary took a shell in the magazine, and blew up.

This picture (http://flickr.com/photos/13225589@N02/1366214192/) shows him as an RM Band Sergeant.

Hello,
My mother is trying to find anything about what happened to Able Seaman Bill Beresford who was serving on the Aurora when she was attacked in Dover harbour about 1940.
My mother 'went out' with Bill for a while and she recalls that he came from Yorkshire.
Bill was badly injured when the Aurora was attacked and was in hospital for a while at Dover.
Any information about the HMS Aurora (I believe it may have been a destroyer) or about Bill would be really appreciated.
