Having read a wee bit on them now, and having established that a lot of my rellies seem to have been around the Eskdale area for quite some time in the C18/C19 - which is purported to be one of the most active areas - I have noted that some people mention that their rellies are known 'Reivers' - how did you find out? - was there a list, memorial etc. etc...

Just curious...:D

Thought you might like to check out this web site: www.borderreivers.co.uk. There is a long list of surnames attached to the 'Reivers' and still a great deal of anamosity to this day between families.

Thanks Judith for that link - a most interesting evening's read. The Kennedy's of Eskdale seem to have married into many of the families mentioned on the webite but are not listed themselves - maybe they just kept their heads down...LOL
